 What is steinless steel?

What types of metal is stainless steel?
The main component of stainless steel is iron, which also includes 12 % and above chrome, and if needed added nickel and other elements (molybdenum, copper, titanium), to be dissolved and refined.

SUS410
Martensitic Stainless Steel
  • It is a stainless steel of Fe-Cr series alloyed metal which includes 13%Cr.
  • It has a metal treating characteristic very similar to most alloyed steel and shows wide-range mechanical property by appropriate heat treatment.
  • This type of metals is ferromagnetic.
SUS430
Ferritic Stainless Steel
  • Same as martensitic stainless steel, it is Fe-Cr alloyed metal which includes 18% Cr. It rarely produce r-phase even in high temperature, and almost ferrite single phase.
  • This type of steel basically does not go solid when heated.
  • It shows best softness, ductility, and corrosion resistance under annealing, it has magnetism like martensitic stainless steel.
SUS304
Austenitic Stainless Steel
  • Fe-Cr-Ni alloyed metal, mostly known as 18Cr-8Ni, it is non magnetism, austenitic single phase, under ordinary temperature from high temperature.
  • It does not go solid when heated.
  • This type of austenitic stainless steel shows work hardening and transformation-induced plasticity by applying a cold-work. It may also shows mechanical property of wide range and magnetism.
  • If quenched rapidly from high temperature, it is annealed and separation of carbide is controlled, which shows best softness, ductility, and corrosion resistance.

    As shown in picture above, the main component of stainless steel is iron, the week point of iron is improved, it has better characteristic than iron such as in ductility, heat resistance, and crashworthiness. Generally, stainless steel is believed to be rustles and if becomes rusty,some people say it is fake. Of course, stainless steel has better corrosion resistance than iron and aluminum, it is not rust-free such as gold and silver. Also, there are many types of stainless steel and each has different characteristic. So you must choose best suited stainless steel according to the condition and environment of its application.

Excellent characteristic of stainless steel are if summarized as follows:

  1. Has best corrosion resistance and easy to be maintained.
  2. Has good heat resistance.
  3. Has good crashworthiness and tenacity.
